checkViewport(), 100)"> Reciprocal Health Care Agreements
Patients who are from a country with a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement with Australia, can immediately receive necessary treatment as a public patient free of charge. This covers any ill-health or injury which occurs while you are in Australia and requires treatment before you return home.
Countries with Reciprocal Health Care Agreements are:
- Belgium
- Finland
- Italy
- Malta
- Netherlands
- New Zealand
- Norway
- Republic of Ireland
- Slovenia
- Sweden
- United Kingdom.
Some specific Australian Government rules apply for residents of each country that need to be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Overseas patients who are admitted will be asked to provide their passport, visa details and any travel or health insurance details to enable costs to be recovered.
AusHealth has been appointed by Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN) to work with patients for payment of fees. AusHealth will negotiate with the patient’s insurer to identify the level of financial coverage and whether there are any out-of-pocket costs, and discuss these with the patient. If the cost is not covered by insurance, AusHealth will seek payment for the services, or negotiate a payment plan.
